What is a Seeker? What is a Guru?

An absolute field of unwavering stillness is said to permeate and contain everything. This field is absolute consciousness. It is Oneness. Knowing this infinite background field is said to be the highest purpose of life. This purpose, this wish, has driven the universe into existence.

In this infinite field of consciousness, a succession of more and more complex patterns appears. They all seek knowledge. They all push evolution. At one point the human body- mind entity appears as a pattern vibrating in consciousness. The specific human pattern is a result of all the preceding patterns, whose work has preprogramed the human being for the possibility of self-awareness and liberation. The consciousness alive in the human pattern can return to Oneness by knowing itself as the stainless field of absolute consciousness, in which all vibrations are perceived by themselves.

The vibrational patterns that we are made of and that we name as food, desire, body and mind interact, change and “colour” each other. Human beings also colour each other. Sometimes a particular strong interaction and attachment tips the colour of the pattern towards a certain hue, like a dye permeating colourless fabric or clear water.

The hue makes your personal vision coloured and change the way the world looks to you, so, based on your tinted perception of attachment, you interact with the tinted spectrum of the world in a tinted and narrow manner. This tinted behaviour deepens the hue in a feedback loop.

Eventually the person’s world becomes dim and confusing, and he loses his way. He begins to act by compulsion, he is losing his freedom, his search for happiness turns into a trap. The world begins to feel meaningless, useless, and wrong. He is disappointed; the world cannot give him what he wants. He becomes disgusted with the world that he is caught in, but he can’t give up the sense that there must be more than this to life.

So, he decides to inspect the confusing world to understand what is going on. Like this, because he is no longer as invested in the world, he begins to truly perceive the way the world works.

He realizes that the appearance of the world is like particles of many different dyes floating in light, and that these dyes never settle but swirl around each other and keep blending, separating, thinning, thickening, and creating an infinity of colourful constellations and combinations.

He realizes that his consciousness might be like the clear light that the dyes swirl playfully in, that he remains simply pure and clear light with or without colour. The particles of pigments float in the clear light like miniature planets in the solar system; with endless space of pure consciousness between them. Consciousness sees the pigments floating in it but knows that pigments are just tiny mirrors refracting the light of consciousness.

But somehow mind begins to think itself as coloured. Because it has its attention fixed at the pigment’s beauty, consciousness forgets its own true nature. The appearance of consciousness as if coloured, as if changed, becomes the reality of the mind. Consciousness is no longer pure light; it is red light, or blue light. It appears as the rainbow of manifestation.

Without colour I am nothing, thinks the human mind and becomes blind to its original transparent clarity. Mind becomes bound to the pigment, to the reflecting mirror. For a long time, it is night, clarity sleeps in the darkness of the pigment.

Then mind begins to remember and becomes bored and disenchanted by that dark existence. Mind’s clarity begins to glimpse the truth of who he is. He begins to turn away from his obsession, his fixed stare on pigment. He discovers a new freedom, he begins to move, to turn. He sees light and clarity. He wants to turn more, to become free, to go home.

You begin aligning your vibrational pattern with the field of clarity by interacting, eating and living in a way that allows this resonance to happen. Where you were previously compelled to crave satisfaction based on the coloured vision you had picked up, you now deliberately seek, consume, and surround yourself with patterns that brings clarity and balance.

You gravitate to a different inner and outer environment in order to know pure consciousness. Resonance with the field of infinite pure consciousness brings stillness to the multidirectional human pattern you mistakenly have call you. With still clarity, your consciousness become aware of the subtler levels of the body-mind entity that you used to call yourself.

You become a seeker. You stand one step back to look from outside at your previous home, your previous identification. This tiny step of revelation occurs every hour, every minute for at seeker remembering his true nature. The simpler and balancing lifestyle that supports this process is not a goal in itself, just a base for seeking with clarity. Don’t get attached to the outer appearance of your lifestyle, don’t stare yourself blind in its pleasing pigment. This is not a new identity; it is a tool.

Deidentify with the infinity of objects by knowing what you are not. Step back to look. Step back again and again until you are able to trust and simply expand, to surrender to yourself. Become pure crystalline water poured into water. Understand that truth does not mix, nothing is separate, nothing has happened but truth becoming truth, having always been truth.

Water has always been water as brook, river, ocean, evaporation, clouds, ice crystals, rain, snow, drops, and river. Having been water all the way through the varying hues of existence, water now knows itself as simply water, clear water, eternal and pure.

The water of life.

A guide may appear to support that turn, that detaching from the illusory colour.

This guide says that an absolute field of unwavering stillness permeates and contains everything.

He says that knowing that we, as the all-knowing awareness, are this infinite background field of consciousness, is the highest purpose of life.

This purpose, this wish to know, has driven the universe into its always changing existence as a field of complex resonance patterns and colours. In the infinite field of awareness or “nothingness”, the “human being” also appears as a specific pattern.

The guide, the guru principle confirms that your relationship with the world has the power to support or obstruct your wish to wake up. He points to parts of reality which will manifest and support your resonance with him and other parts which will obstruct it. He calls those supportive elements of reality beneficial; he knows they are the maintainer of balance and clarity.

Waking up is like withdrawing water from pigment, knowing light from ignorant darkness.

The voice of guru is the ocean calling out to the river to finally surrender and come home. Guru is the faint whisper telling you that your true nature is clarity, that you were never pigment, never coloured, or stained, never clouded or dim. Guru is the ocean telling the raging waves crowned by proud white foam caps that they are one with him. That the wave is nothing but the ocean. If you are yourself darkened or dim, you may perceive guru as a light, but when you become transparent, you see guru as transparent.

Water sees only water, and only water can see water clearly.

Guru is pure consciousness. Guru says, resonate with the infinite field of being that is me, know me, be me. He knows how to make you understand that you, like him, is pure awareness, because he has realised the laws of reality and of illusion.

He has walked out on his false self and known what he in reality exists as. He is standing outside looking in, trying to get your attention, to catch your eye, to make you aware that he is standing outside, and that he can see that you too long to get out, that you want to come home. He smiles with the warmest love and your heart melts when you become aware of his loving gaze.

You begin to understand who he is, and what you are. He, as pure consciousness, teases, begs, kicks, and lures you out towards the limit of your resonating pattern, until you stand on the edge of reason. There you pause.

Do I dare jump? What will happen?

There Guru can no longer act, he cannot reach you, you are too close to him now. You stand there all alone because this step you must take by yourself. You can stand there for ever, or you can jump now. Guru is patience itself; he can wait forever. Time stops, guru is there. An eternity passes. You and guru are still there.

Waves keep rising out of the ocean, but they still doubt whether it is true that a wave is really just the ocean moving.

Could it be? Could it?

It would certainly simplify things and answer a lot of questions.

Yes, it would, but … it’s fun being the waves…

It is, but you will crash eventually…

Sure, but then you rise again… and crash…

Why do we keep rising and falling?

Because there is nothing else to do—that is all.

But it gets boring with time, pointless. Are you sure that is all?

Why not investigate?

If you begin to observe reality, you may realize that there is an unobvious constant part and an obvious changing part. You see how the changing bothers you only when you expect it to be unchanging or predictable. You long for the still peacefulness of the constant. You want to know that constant and infinite field that all vibrations appear in to erect the mirage of the finite world. You develop the ability to discern constant truth from wavering illusion.

You realize that colours appear due to pure white light being continually distorted and that clear and pure water holding the dye is unchanged. You realize that you are both the clear water and pure white light gleaming in it.

You are the infinite field of unwavering consciousness, not the waves crossing through it.

You are the constant witnessing the ever changing.

You are neither.
